A michigan photographer’s take on midwest Romance
As a Michigan wedding photographer, I’m constantly inspired by venues that blend refined architecture with nature’s quiet beauty. When I had the opportunity to photograph this romantic editorial at Basil Place, a serene wedding venue just over the border in Ohio, I knew it would reflect so much of what I love about Midwest weddings—timeless style, intentional design, and meaningful storytelling.
This editorial was designed to evoke a sense of old-world romance meets modern simplicity. Every element, from the florals to the tablescape, was chosen to celebrate natural textures, muted tones, and understated elegance—the same qualities I bring to my work with Michigan couples who value authenticity and artistry.

A setting of Stillness and Natural beauty
Basil Place is surrounded by acres of peaceful countryside, complete with a tranquil pond, wooded trails, and manicured stone terraces that lend themselves beautifully to intimate ceremonies. The ceremony setup featured minimalist wooden bistro chairs arranged around soft, organic floral installations—creating an aisle that felt effortless and inviting.
The soft blush and ivory tones of the florals complemented the natural greens of the landscape, offering the perfect balance between curated design and organic beauty. The entire space felt both elevated and deeply peaceful, a reflection of the Midwest’s quiet charm.

Ceremony by the Water: A romantic floral aisle meadow
The ceremony took place in front of the beautiful water at Basil Place, where the still water mirrored the sky and surrounding trees. This natural backdrop created an atmosphere of quiet reverence and romance—a setting that felt both serene and deeply personal.
The aisle was lined with a floral meadow runner, a breathtaking arrangement of blooms that appeared to grow straight from the earth. Soft greenery, delicate roses, and airy filler florals wove together along the walkway, creating a garden-like path that guided the couple toward the altar.
Each bloom seemed intentionally placed yet completely natural, mirroring the balance of elegance and ease that defines my approach to photography. The combination of the water, the florals, and the open sky made this ceremony space feel like a living work of art—timeless, heartfelt, and purely romantic.

Artful tablescape Inspiration
At the reception table, the styling took a creative turn that perfectly married artistry and nature. Among lush florals and taper candles, artichokes, grapes, and onions were thoughtfully woven into the decor—a nod to the abundance of the harvest season and the beauty found in unexpected details.
These natural elements brought texture and richness to the table design, reminding us that beauty doesn’t always come from perfection but from intention. The soft candlelight played against the muted greens and purples, creating a tablescape that felt intimate, romantic, and timelessly elegant.

A reflection of My Approach
Whether in Michigan or beyond, my photography approach remains the same—honest storytelling, refined by grace, and captured with heart. I believe your wedding day should be captured in a way that feels both artful and true to you. Every frame from this editorial at Basil Place was created with that philosophy in mind: to find the emotion in stillness, the grace in movement, and the beauty in imperfection.
